Texas Updates CT and Fluoroscopy Radiation Rules
The State of Texas is updating their radiation regulations (Section 289.227) to implement numerous changes for CT and fluoroscopy operators effective May 1, 2013. Among the many provisions in the new rules is a requirement to establish a Radiation Protocol Committee (RPC) to ensure that CT and fluoroscopic procedures are performed at appropriate dose levels. Additionally, new requirements address the recording of patient doses, establishment of radiation dose thresholds, reporting of overexposures, and staff radiation safety training, among other regulations. The new requirements will require substantial enhancements to most facilities’ radiation protection programs and are detailed in the rule update language, accessed by clicking here. Please contact West Physics if your facility would like any assistance with meeting these new regulations, as our technical staff are fully prepared to help you implement the new requirements quickly and simply.
