The West Physics Mammographic AEC Thickness Tracking Slabs are designed for the assessment of AEC system performance in accordance with American College of Radiology (ACR) and MQSA recommendations. They allow the medical physicist to confirm that the mammographic unit’s automatic exposure control (AEC) is capable of maintaining consistent exposure and image quality when the thickness of a homogeneous material is varied over a range of 2 to 8 cm and the kVp is varied appropriately for such thicknesses over the kVp range used clinically in the facility. Each slab set is precision-milled from PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) and includes 3 pieces of 2-cm thick slabs and 2 pieces of 1-cm thick slabs.
