West Physics Residency Program

West Physics’ Medical Physics Residency Program is a three-year CAMPEP-accredited residency program in diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine physics based in Atlanta, Georgia. This intensive program offers physicists/applicants interested in pursuing a career in diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine a fantastic opportunity to learn from the most knowledgeable and experienced diagnostic medical physicists and health physicists in the world.

Our residents perform surveys on the most diverse array of imaging equipment found in the market today, participate in cutting-edge theranostics procedures, and interact with a wide range of clients from California to the Caribbean. After three years with us, our residency program graduates are prepared to handle any imaging system or procedure from brand new to established legacy with ease, supported by over 75 full-time staff physicists who can assist with any issues they may have.

In 2022, West Physics Residency Program received 27 applications. Four were offered admission, and three enrolled into the program. In 2023, the program received 28 applications, six were offered admission, and five enrolled into the program. As of April 2025, there are 14 residents in the program.

Three residents graduated in the first half of 2024. Three residents are expected to graduate in mid-2025.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to our Residency Program must meet the following requirements for consideration:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in physics, OR
  • A degree in an engineering discipline or a physical science with coursework that is the equivalent of a minor in physics, i.e., at least three upper-level undergraduate physics courses that would be required for a physics major, AND
  • A master’s or doctorate degree from a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics graduate program, OR
  • A doctorate degree in science or engineering and a medical physics certificate from a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program

When applying, please be prepared to submit official transcripts reflecting the above. If they are not in English, you must also provide a professionally prepared English translation.

Summarizing the Restrictive Covenants

As a private-practice medical physics group, West Physics requires entering residents (like all starting employees) to agree to certain restrictive covenants. These covenants, which include non-compete, non-disclosure and non-disparagement requirements, adhere to current CAMPEP standards (Section 6.7) governing appropriate protections for private-practice medical physics programs.
